Records are made to be broken

February 22, 2023

΢Ȧ swimming and diving wrapped up 2022-23 competition at the Feb. 15-18 Liberty League Championship meet by breaking one record after another, for a total of 22 new College-best times.

Included in the list of record-breakers are Nic Sodi and Sophia May. May’s 406.75 score is a College record in the women’s 1M diving event and qualified her for the NCAA Division III regionals. Sodi’s 16:07.76 in the men’s 1650 was not only a College and Liberty League Championship meet record but also a championship-winning finish, 11 seconds faster than his 2022 win. Sodi also broke the 1000 free record during the 1650 (9:43.47) and qualified for the NCAA B Cut.

As the times ticked down and the student-athletes gave their best performances to date, Coach Jill Greenleaf said, “I can't think of another championship I've coached at ΢Ȧ where every athlete performed so well. The energy this group drew from each other session after session just continued to drive them forward.”

The results of the four-day meet also included 61 new top 10 times and scores and 14 individual event podium appearances.
