Douglas Gerhardt is an Associate Lecturer in the Business and Management Department. For the past four years he has taught Business Law and Business Ethics every semester while maintaining a full time legal practice. His knowledge of law and insight on business, particularly as a practitioner, adds tremendous value and perspective to students.

In addition to teaching, Douglas has, for more than thirty years, enjoyed practicing education and public labor law throughout New York State. A graduate of the University of Rochester and Albany Law School, Douglas long ago adopted the U of R slogan, MELIORA – ever better – as his philosophy in practicing law. With an extensive statewide labor and education law practice, Douglas strives to always resolve with an eye toward improving for the client’s benefit. He routinely advises, counsels, and litigates on behalf of school districts, municipalities, and private sector companies on a range of issues including general education, labor and employment and human resources. Douglas is at the forefront of legal issues involving artificial intelligence and their merger with legal practice. Douglas is a frequent lecturer on these issues, particularly AI and the practice of law and legal ethics. He has been part of cases which have been heard at the US Supreme Court and has written on topics ranging from public education to the First Amendment.

In the classroom, Douglas brings that same energy and perspective striving to help students grasp legal and ethical concepts drawing in real world experiences every day. His goal as a professor is for students to understand concepts and be able to translate those into real life situations.

Douglas is an accomplished outdoorsman having climbed several of the highest peaks in the world as well as a dedicated runner. He is a native of Saratoga and strongly committed to the area and ΞΆΓάΘ¦.
