  1. Middle States Accreditation Update (Kelly Sheppard)

We have fulfilled our accreditation. We will be up again in 8 years, and we don’t have to submit any extra info (some other institutions were asked to).  However, the landscape of accreditation seems to be changing, so we’ll have to keep an eye on the challenges.

  1. Thanks to CEPP members on subcommittees: Kim Frederick on the Global FYE

Subcommittee, and Yelena Biberman + Javier Perez-Moreno on the GSLD Subcommittee!

The subcommittees were formed and members were acknowledged. The FDA has noticed that some of the goals cannot be assessed.

  1. Discuss and approve CEPP Operating Code

We discussed and approved the CEPP Operating Code.  It will go to the website.

It was suggested that Appendix A (regarding recording policies in class) should not be in the Operating Code, and it could go into the CEPP website’s section for Documents and Links. ADOF, Student Academic Affairs will be consulted prior to this move, as there might be a reason for which it is included in the Operating Code.

Question from a faculty member: How do we take our representation?  Do we bring our own expertise to the job, talk with our “constituents” in the Divisions? It is not clear, so we should decide as a group. Are we bringing our divisional representation as our perspective?

CEPP as a committee does solicit input regularly in different forms.

  • By default, this is not a confidential committee. CEPP announces the agenda for the year in the Faculty Meetings. Confidentiality is expected in instances like emails.Traditionally the minutes tend to be summaries of the discussions, with different levels of detail.
  • Some topics that are still in transition and being discussed, are reported in less detail.
  • Some discussions are designated as specifically confidential. Any member can request confidentiality. The minutes can have two versions, one with the confidential details kept by the Chair, another with vague details to be published.

Conclusion: Most of the times we are interacting as committee with others, but we can also communicate from a personal level.  We use both deliberative process and representational process as members of CEPP. CEPP has the tradition of bringing people with expertise for consultation.

Other edits & questions on Operating Code:

Page 2 - Correction: Institutional, not Intuitional

Page 6 - Emails between CEPP members should not be forwarded to outside parties, should be changed to “Communication between CEPP members about CEPP issues should not be forwarded to outside parties.”

Page 1: Does CEPP generate policy or recommend policy? The language used comes from the Faculty Handbook and it’s cumbersome. A change to the section would imply changing the FH.  However, we recognize that CEPP does generate policy.

  1. Brief update on annual report and agendas & minutes from AY2025–2026

No annual report was submitted last year by the AY2025-2026 Chair.  Some agendas and minutes are also missing.  Current Chair is trying to get this fixed.

The Chair composed a CEPP Summary of Previous and Upcoming Work, 2026-09-04, based on the Chair’s recollection.

  1. Recap CEPP work from AY2025–2026 and continuing work in AY2026–2027
  • CEPP will continue working closely with IR in AY2026–2027 to assist with the rollout of the new online QSET system.
  • CEPP also worked closely with the Working Group on Inclusive and Accessible Teaching and Learning (WGIATL) to consider ways that the transition to online all-College ratings might present an opportune moment to rethink the departmental evaluation instruments. Work on this front will likely continue in AY2026–2027.
  • In AY2026–2027 CEPP will continue wrestling with the London FYE question, with CEPP contributing to a subcommittee for the Global FYE. A white paper was provided by OCSE and FYE about closing the London FYE.In order to terminate the London FYE, CEPP will need to agree on closure and then bring to the Faculty for approval. If we choose to terminate the program we should move swiftly (many pieces pending, like contracts, etc.)
  • Accessibility (Title II and Title III). Leadership is needed. The deadline has been moved. We are subject to Title III which doesn’t come with a deadline (yet). CEPP should create a policy for accessibility on course websites.
  • AI Policies – A statement was produced last year.
  • Micro credentialling will be discussed.
  • CEPP will continue discussions on sustainability and curriculum (Foundation V of Strategic Plan)
  1. Discuss new agenda items and issues of concern for AY2026–2027
  • Keeping an eye on the anticipated reductions in faculty FTEs and their curricular impacts
  • Contemplating AI policy recommendations for faculty
  • Grade Inflation
  • Numerous initiatives and discussions around assessment, including assessment design of Senior Coda
  • Assessment of the LMS? It was changed during COVID and has not been assessed yet.
  • One member suggested looking at the credit-hour system. We are not in the Unit system rather than the Credit system (as the rest of institutions in NY6).
  • Changes in Federal Rules for International Students and how they affect us. For example, internships for credit are not allowed for International Students. It was suggested to create a cross-divisional task force for international students, to make ΢Ȧ a good place for our international students.
  • (Next Academic Year): One member suggested a policy for Thanksgiving that allows for asynchronous teaching?
