Matt Wilt
Associate Professor
                                       Area of Expertise: Ceramics
Matt teaches all levels of ceramics at ΞΆΓάΘ¦, incorporating a broad-based, interdisciplinary
approach to the material. Diversity within the discipline is explored through function,
sculpture, two-dimensional imagery as surface development, and the vessel as sculpture.

Matt received his Bachelor's degree in Ceramics and Art Education from Penn State
University and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University, Athens. His work
in mixed media integrates cast ceramic forms with wheel thrown and hand built elements.
The resulting objects often refer to the ceramic tradition of functional devices,
but have become more visually ambiguous, while incorporating a variety of non-clay
materials. The synthesis of the biological with the mechanics of the manmade world
continues to be a prevailing theme.
Matt has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards. He has received two Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts Grants, an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, and the Evelyn Shapiro
Foundation Fellowship. His artwork can be found in the collections of the Crocker

of American Art, and numerous other public and private collections. He has been an

States, including Tyler School of Art, Indiana University, University of Alaska, Northern
